This is a great little skit but it touches on the fact that most municipalities are focused on the “cone approach” and not making the upstream changes to how communities are built, how to better and fully protect those not in cars and safe infrastructure. The future is not #autonomousvehicles, it’s about investing in better and safe neighbourhoods and the safest infrastructure from the start. This will unlock people moving through cities safer and lead to a better health outcome for us all. Infrastructure expansion and renewal is going to bankrupt cities. Don’t let your city focus on the cone.

Did you know that according to the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC), approximately 80 people are expected to move to central Ohio every day, 365 days a year, for the next 25 years? That kind of growth is tremendous and all the new economic development projects (including flying taxis!) currently in central Ohio's pipeline are a good thing. There are very few areas throughout our region that aren't seeing some type of growth that will change the communities where we live.Click on our newsletter below for more exciting news on the specifics of some of that development as well as market and economic news.

Before becoming a patent attorney, I was a structural engineer designing building foundations and bridges and other structures. While in college, one of my professors told us about this "engineering marvel” back in 1930 when this 22,000 ton building was rotated 90 degrees while people continued to occupy the building and without any interruption to water, sewer, and electricity. https://lnkd.in/e8cru__T At that time, I was young and naive and I thought that the "big deal" was the technical difficulty in rotating a 22,000 ton building 90 degrees. Now that I have my own law firm with 50+ team members working for me, I have more of an appreciation for all of the "people" challenges that I imagine had to be dealt with:-"this sucks"-"there is dust on my desk"-"how come Markgets to move"-"I want a new office"-"can I work remote until this is done"-"how come Patty gets the water view"-"I have nowhere to park" I’ve learned over time that science is straight forward. Math is predictable. Laws of nature do not change. Answers in engineering are often precise and accurate enough to have “have decimal places” in them. Managing an organization, on the other hand, is messy and uncertain and requires a lot of judgment and maturity and heart, and reliance on your gut and intuition and you have to lean on a completely different set of skills. Some engineers look down upon “soft skills” because they are hard to measure and almost impossible to successfully “test for” but that doesn’t make them any less important for an organization to succeed.
