Inflammation to Inspiration: Losing 20 lbs by Living, Not Counting4 mar· Thyroid and Menopause Madness Podcast with Dr. Joni Labbe, DC, CCN, DCCN

“I lost 20 lbs. without realizing it. I kept my focus on my health rather than the number on the scale. I have this new pattern of living, focusing on what I want. Not what I don’t want. I even lost 4 lbs. from Thanksgiving to Christmas! This is amazing, because I’m a cookie girl, I love to bake, I’m known for my cooking. I learned the secret to weight loss is getting the inflammation down. Not counting calories or living in the gym. I still bake, exercise, enjoy my life even more because I know I have control over my weight, because I control the inflammation. You can do it too!”

  • “I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s years ago, and always felt like I was just managing my symptoms. Earlier this year I turned 50, had several stressful events, and felt extreme fatigue, brain fog, had a rash that would come and go, and my weight was up. We discovered I had a parasite ( Blastocyst), and in four months of changing my diet, some targeted supplements, I’ve lost 20 lbs, I’m sleeping better, the rash is gone, and my energy is up”.

More Hair In Your Brush than on Your Head? 10 Science Based Powerful Remedies7 jun 2023· Thyroid and Menopause Madness Podcast with Dr. Joni Labbe, DC, CCN, DCCN

On this episode, Dr. Labbe delved deep into the topic of hair loss, which despite not being one of society's most pressing issues, is an important health concern that deserves attention.

Here are the key points discussed:

The Body's Prioritization: Our bodies, in their wisdom, divert energy and nutrients from hair, skin, and nails to vital organs like the heart, lungs, kidneys, and thyroid in order to optimize overall health.Alopecia and Other Conditions: We explored various reasons for hair loss, such as alopecia, an autoimmune disease that can cause hair loss in patches or completely, which is often linked to thyroid issues like Hashimoto's. Other autoimmune diseases such as lupus and untreated celiac disease can also contribute to hair loss.Role of High Testosterone: PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) or high testosterone levels can contribute to hair loss. Imbalances like insulin resistance, or an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone, or even high cortisol may be at play.Hormonal Fluctuations: During menopause and perimenopause, fluctuations in hormones may lead to hair loss. Also, the quantity of active thyroid hormone (T3) can have an impact on hair growth.Medications and Their Side Effects: Medications can sometimes cause hair thinning, or other unpleasant side effects, and there's a need for caution in using products like Rogaine whose long-term effects are unknown.Natural Approach: We discussed the benefits of a natural approach to hair loss, focusing on restoring balance to the body's hormones, neurotransmitters, etc.Science-backed Remedies: We discussed a range of remedies such as evening primrose, biotin, green tea, checking iron levels, lysine, arginine, Saw Palmetto, MSM, zinc, and stinging nettles.Importance of Diet: An anti-inflammatory diet filled with healthy fats, quality proteins, and lower glycemic foods can support hair health and aid in thyroid conversion.Stress Management: High stress levels and consequent high cortisol can contribute to hair loss. We highlighted the importance of finding stress relief activities that work for you.Positive Mindset: The power of positive thinking and its impact on the body's response was also stressed.

Remember, reversing thyroid hair loss takes time, usually six to nine months, and it's usually the last thing to return when your body is regaining balance. But with time, patience, and the right approach, you should be able to see baby hairs coming back gradually.

For more details or help with your thyroid issues, consider setting up a complimentary clarity call to discuss solutions to these complex symptoms.

4 Top AutoImmune Triggers that May Be Impacting Your Hashimoto's6 jun 2023· Thyroid and Menopause Madness Podcast with Dr. Joni Labbe, DC, CCN, DCCN

In this episode Dr. Labbe discusses:

    Introduction:

Autoimmune diseases often have invisible symptoms and can fluctuate over time.Common autoimmune diseases include Lupus, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, fibromyalgia, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

    Understanding Autoimmunity:

Autoimmunity occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own tissues. The immune system misbehaves, attacking healthy tissues instead of external threats.Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an example of an autoimmune disease.

    Causes of Autoimmunity:

Autoimmune diseases can be caused by a combination of genetic predisposition, environmental factors, and epigenetics.Predisposition refers to certain characteristics that make individuals more susceptible to developing an autoimmune disease.Genetic factors like HLA, p53, and IL10 genes have been associated with Hashimoto's and other autoimmune diseases.Environmental triggers, such as intestinal permeability (leaky gut), infections like Epstein Barr virus, and chronic infections like Lyme disease, can contribute to autoimmunity.Exposure to pollutants, toxins, chemicals, heavy metals, and mold can also act as triggers.Physical or psychological trauma and chronic stress can impact the immune system and trigger autoimmune irregularities.Epigenetics, the study of biological processes that switch genes on and off, can play a role in the development of autoimmune diseases.

The Importance of Identifying Triggers and Predispositions:

Understanding triggers and predispositions is crucial in managing autoimmune diseases.Functional blood tests and specialized labs like Cyrex Labs can help identify infections, hormonal imbalances, allergies, immune cell counts, and food intolerances.Identifying triggers and predispositions can provide insights into the causes of autoimmune diseases and guide personalized treatment approaches.Recognizing and addressing triggers can help reduce symptoms and improve overall health.

    Conclusion:

Autoimmune diseases require a comprehensive understanding of triggers, predispositions, and lifestyle factors.Identifying and addressing triggers is essential for effectively managing Hashimoto's and other autoimmune conditions.Functional testing and consultations with healthcare professionals can provide valuable insights and guidance in addressing autoimmune triggers and improving overall well-being.

Stress, Hormones, and Hashimoto's18 apr 2023· Thyroid and Menopause Madness Podcast with Dr. Joni Labbe, DC, CCN, DCCN

In this episode, we discuss how stress affects your health and explore adrenal-related stress signs. These signs include fatigue, slow mornings, afternoon energy crashes, cravings for sweets, caffeine, or nicotine, unstable behavior, moodiness, and dizziness when changing positions.

We also talk about how chronic stress can sabotage efforts to manage hypothyroidism and how stress can result from various factors like blood sugar imbalances, infections, or autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto's.

A simple saliva adrenal stress test can help measure cortisol levels and provide insights into your adrenal health. We discuss how cortisol should be high in the morning and low at night, but for many people, it's reversed, causing fatigue in the morning and insomnia at night.

By analyzing your saliva adrenal stress test results, we can create a personalized health protocol to improve your adrenal health. We also explore how stress can impact your immune system over time, potentially causing food intolerances, infections, and weakened immunity.

Finally, we touch on the importance of blood sugar stability in managing stress and its symptoms. To get started on improving your stress management and overall quality of life, consider contacting our office to request a saliva adrenal stress test kit.

Join us in this important conversation about stress, blood sugar, cortisol levels, and how we can help you return to the best version of yourself.
