Fantastic to see the UK’s first-ever heat pump apprenticeship is set to be launched! This funding approval for dedicated low-carbon heating heat pump training is a massive step forward - up to now, training has been an add-on to fossil fuel heating courses. It’s much needed, too – just 850 people did heat pump training in 2022, but we’d need 57,000 heat pump technicians by 2030 to meet government installation targets. Clearly, some way to go yet, but it's a great start!#Renewables #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy

Exciting news! The UK’s first-ever Low Carbon Heating Apprenticeship is coming soon, thanks to government funding approval for the scheme. 🎉This is a potential game-changer for heat pump installation! Did you know that in 2022, just 850 people completed heat pump training? But we actually need a whopping 57k skilled heat pump technicians by 2030 to hit govt targets? This can’t come soon enough! 👍#Renewables #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy

Seen something funny today in Installer Online there is a college claiming to be running the uk’s first low carbon apprenticeship courses, ie ASHP. We’ve been running low carbon apprenticeship courses for almost 2 years now, realising back then that Gas MLP courses, really needed the Air Source Heat Pump Course to be part of the standard courses. We’ve been lobbying for funding assistance for employers, who are working on future technologies today. Not 5 years from now, but right now!! In Scotland. Working on ASHP, Solar, EESS, Electric Vehicle Charge points, hybrid systems and it’s only now that public colleges are starting to approach these low carbon technologies. Myself and the team work as consultants for energy suppliers, councils, large businesses, smaller businesses and independents and are learning from the front line everyday and adding constantly to our course materials, have been for the last couple of years. We’re working with businesses ranging from a few thousand in turnover per year to 10 million, then 100’s of millions, helping create and implement curriculum solutions where the current solutions don’t meet the needs of businesses. It’s good to know that the “1st” college in the industry has begun these low carbon solutions courses though 👏

London college says it offers UK's first electric vehicle charger course 📚 London South Bank Technical College, in Nine Elms, is offering a six-week course on installing the chargers. Funded by Shell in partnership with City and Guilds, the course is part of a four-year electrical apprenticeship. It follows concerns there will not be enough qualified installers to meet the government's charging point targets.Currently, about 300,000 public chargers are expected to be available in the UK by 2030.Figures from Zap-Map show in the last three months of 2022, 2,401 EV charging points were installed - roughly 25% of the monthly installation rate needed to reach the government's target.Recent 2023 quarterly figures show installations have now gone up to 5,474, and is on the way to reaching the target. 🙌

Electrical industry celebrates green skills ahead of Scottish Apprenticeship Week – and says others must show a similar commitment to net zeroScotland’s leading electrical bodies say the industry is leading the way with skills and training to help power the technology of tomorrow – and are urging others to follow in its footsteps to ensure Scotland makes a successful transition to net zero.SELECT, the Scottish Joint Industry Board (SJIB) and the Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT) have released a new video ahead of Scottish Apprenticeship Week that reinforces the range of renewable training currently being undertaken by apprentices. The film shows how young electricians are receiving a thorough grounding in a wide range of green skills to enable them to cater for our future heat and power needs, including working with electric vehicles, battery storage, solar panels, air source heat pumps and more. But the bodies also insist that the government, homeowners and wider construction sector must also embrace the opportunities offered by renewables and work together to ensure that the transition to net zero becomes a reality.Alan WilsonAlan Wilson, Managing Director of SELECT, said: “This video aims not only to inspire young learners to become electrical apprentices but also to show that the electrical industry is at the heart of the move to the electrification of society.https://lnkd.in/dTc5S97a

Is college the only path to achievement? This recent Good Morning America piece on high school seniors deciding between college and trade schools sparked a great conversation (https://lnkd.in/ez3E-MBF). Automotive, electrical, plumbing, and welding are gaining popularity among young adults, which is understandable as college tuition climbs near $100,000 a year. But what if I told you there's expanding field with amazing career opportunities – clean energy, and specifically wind energy?Watching this piece, I was surprised to hear no mention of clean energy professions, despite the fact that wind technician is the fastest growing career category in the United States according to the BLS. For young people seeking a stable and rewarding career path, wind energy offers a compelling combination of factors:🚀 Fast Growth: As wind power becomes an increasingly critical part of the energy mix, the demand for skilled wind energy technicians is sky high.🛣️ Clear Progression Pathways: Wind energy careers offer well-defined paths for advancement, with opportunities to move into leadership, engineering, operations management, health and safety, education, and sales.💸 Low Cost of Entry: Trade schools and certificate programs can provide the necessary skills and qualifications to enter the wind energy field at a significantly lower cost than a traditional four-year college degree.💚Fulfilling Work: A career in wind energy allows you to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.I firmly believe in the importance of higher education, but there's numerous paths to achievement. While college remains a viable choice, the trades provide a distinct set of benefits. Interested in Clean Energy Careers? This week, the The Sydney Morning Herald highlighted the "desperate shortfall of skilled workers needed in the transition to renewable energy." The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) and the Electrical Trades Union both called for increases in training services and facilities and targeted skilled migration. The article notes that this year, the federal government launched a scheme in which apprentices working in the renewable energy sector would receive $10,000 to help Australia meet its 2030 and 2050 emissions reduction targets. But with a 58 per cent completion rate in apprenticeships, ETU national secretary Michael Wright says the industry will need an additional 20,000 apprenticeships starting every year to have enough skilled workers to meet targets. The full article can be found at https://lnkd.in/giSRDRRdHead to careersfornetzero.com.au to learn more about finding your role in the clean economy.#netzero#cleaneconomy#greenjobs#climatejobs
